One Agency marks the beginning of a new era, announcing Mark Stewart, Matthew Crockett, Aaron Blackburn and Adam Martin as the new custodians of the international network, with Mr Stewart to assume the role of CEO.
The transition represents a significant milestone not only for One Agency, but for Founder Paul Davies, whose career in real estate spans more than five decades and who has spent almost 20 years building One Agency into an international network of more than 120 independent real estate businesses across four countries.
Mr Davies said keeping the future of One Agency in the hands of people who had experienced the model firsthand was central to the decision.
“It was important to us that One Agency’s next chapter be led by people who genuinely understand the model and what makes us unique,
“I have seen this industry change enormously over the years, but one thing I have always believed is that good real estate operators should have the opportunity to build successful and profitable businesses on their own terms,
“Mark, Matthew, Aaron and Adam know One Agency because they have lived it. They have built their own success within the network and understand firsthand the freedom and independence our model was created to provide.
“For Annie and I, there could be no stronger demonstration of what One Agency was designed to achieve.”
From members to custodians
One Agency was established as an alternative to the traditional real estate franchise model, allowing independently owned businesses to operate under an international brand while retaining greater control over their operations and economics.
Mr Davies said those foundations would remain firmly in place under the new ownership.
“Our flat-fee model is not changing and the independence our members value is not changing,” he said.
“What is changing is the level of ambition and investment Mark and his partners will bring to the next phase of One Agency’s growth.
“The real estate industry is evolving rapidly. We wanted the next generation of leadership to have the energy and appetite to invest in that future while protecting the principles that have always made One Agency different.”
Mr Stewart said the group viewed the acquisition as a responsibility to protect and strengthen the network, upholding the same ethos that sets One Agency apart from competitors.
“We see ourselves first and foremost as custodians of One Agency,” Mr Stewart said.
“We have benefited from this model ourselves for almost a decade, so we understand exactly why independence, autonomy and the economics of the model matter so much to members.
“Our job now is to protect those foundations while investing in the tools, technology, resources and support that can help One Agency businesses become even stronger.”
Proof of the model
Mr Stewart said the ownership transition also demonstrated the potential of One Agency’s proposition for ambitious real estate operators.
“We joined One Agency as members and used the platform to build and grow our own business,” he said.
“To now have the opportunity to help lead the network into its next chapter is something we take very seriously.
“One Agency has always been about putting greater control in the hands of real estate professionals. The fact that its future is now being entrusted to members from within the network is a powerful reflection of that philosophy.”
Mr Davies said he and Annie would remain connected to One Agency and continue supporting the new leadership team and the network.
“After almost two decades, I am enormously proud of what this group has become and of every member who has played a part in building it,” he said.
“One Agency was created to challenge the traditional way real estate networks operated and to put more power back into the hands of the people building the businesses.
“I am incredibly proud that One Agency’s next chapter will come from within, and I genuinely believe the best days of the network are still ahead.”
The new leadership team will begin engaging with One Agency members across Australia and internationally over the coming weeks, with further initiatives and investment in member tools, technology, resources and support expected to be announced as the new ownership takes effect.
